Days of high divinity are celebrated throughout the year. Successfully conducting the appropriate rituals can convey blessings, while failure to do so will result in supernatural ire.

Ritual Roll

To determine the success of the festival make a Ritual skill check against a difficulty of 10. This can be done by the community leader, or by a priest.

FestivalDifficulty
Conduct a festival10
Large celebration+1 to +3
In a state of purity/impurity-2 to +4
Appropriate sacrifice-1 or -2

The number of participants increases the difficulty of conducting a successful ritual. Rituals must be performed for a specific community, although this could be defined in many ways. For each category larger the sacrifice must be twice as large, and incurs an additional -1 penalty due to difficulty.

  • A fraternal organization, grouping of 3 or 4 households
  • Small village, guild of moderate size, Noctian estate
  • Town - additionally requires at least one other priest to act as an assistant
  • Grand polis - also requires 4 additional priests

Priests can incur penalties for being in a state of impurity, these are the same as for Temple checks - often requiring living a strict lifestyle for the course of the previous year. A particularly apt sacrifice can reduce the difficulty. This should be something notable and creative, perhaps dedicating a Triumph to a particular god or other interesting contribution.

Record the outcome of the ritual in the chronicle.

  • Success - participants gain appropriate blessing. Priest gains 1 reputation.
  • Failure - no blessing is granted, and priest loses 2 reputation.
  • Opportunity - blessing may be exceptionally strong, or an omen may be issued in addition to the normal results.
  • Complication - on a success this could mean a change to the ritual which must be incorporated in future years, while on a failure this indicates a curse has been laid
