Most peculiar is that they are guides by the wisdom of “elders.” Late in their lives Xanthe fall into a terrible comatose fever, often resulting in death. Those who survive are radically reshaped, both in mind and body. Strong, near perfect memory, totally sexless, and able to survive on rations that would starve any other man. Alongside this their minds have an inevitable focus on the larger picture - for the good of all peoples. As such elders form a caste of aesthetics, who renounce worldly goods to instead guide and teach a younger generation.
